<image:caption>Molly Cohen has been working in the restaurant and wine industries for over twenty years. With an academic background in literature and critical theory she decided to abandon academia for the more vibrant NYC restaurant scene. She has been running NYC restaurants and building beverage programs ever since. Molly is also an avid runner and has been running marathons both nationally and internationally since 2001. Molly feels running has taught her more about herself than any other life experience. In 2018, Molly was hit by a car while running and it was this traumatic event that convinced her of the connections between physical and emotional trauma. She is proud to serve on the board of The Practice Coalition.</image:caption>

<image:title>OFFICERS & BOARD - Sally Dickerson</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. Sally Dickerson is a psychology professor who has devoted over 20 years to conducting research on how stressful situations can impact the body. Her work has documented that social stressors -- those characterized by social evaluation, rejection, and criticism -- can activate biological systems (including the stress hormone cortisol and immune markers of inflammation) that can have effects on health. Her award-winning research has helped establish the conditions that activate aspects of the stress response. Capitalizing on this scientific knowledge of how stress can influence health, she implements evidence-based practices to help reduce the negative effects of stress on psychological and physical well-being. As an avid yoga practitioner (20+ years) and a yoga teacher (RYT-500), she conducts workshops and lectures on the health benefits of research-based stress management techniques, including yoga and meditation.</image:caption>

<image:title>OFFICERS & BOARD - Jenny Guse</image:title>
<image:caption>Jenny Guse moved to New York City in 2013 to pursue her passion for Musical Theatre. Balancing the demands of auditions with multiple side jobs, she faced mounting anxiety. After the unexpected loss of her father in 2015, she turned to yoga as a path to healing and processing her grief. In 2017, Jenny completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Yoga Vida and began teaching regularly while managing the Union Square studio. Specializing in restorative yoga, she thoughtfully incorporated props into her vinyasa classes, empowering students to explore poses in ways that honored their unique bodies. Her teaching philosophy emphasized choice and adaptability, fostering a welcoming environment for all. In 2022, Jenny completed her Yoga for Trauma teacher training through Solemarch with Sangeeta Vallabhan, reinforcing her commitment to creating safe, inclusive spaces for growth and healing. Now, as a board member of The Practice Coalition, she is honored to help expand access to the transformative benefits of yoga within a community she passionately supports.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Shephathiah is a born and raised Native New Yorker. A mom of two and a high-powered executive assistant, Shephathiah relies on her decades-long yoga practice to keep her both grounded and moving. As a WOC, Shephathiah fully recognizes the need for spaces where BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities are not just served but can also look around the room and see others who reflect themselves. Having experienced the negative side of a white-washed, male-lead yoga community, Shephathiah appreciates being part of a team that is pushing against these boundaries. She completed her RYT-200 with Yoga Vida NYC in 2016 and went on to manage two large, profit-driven studios in Union Square and DUMBO. Shephathiah uniquely understands the challenges of running a large studio in a compact, always-moving city.</image:caption>

<image:title>EVENTS - FUND RAISER — DATE TBA The Yamas are the first limb in Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga. There are five Yamas, and Aparigraha is the last of the five. It translates to mean not hoarding and non possessiveness. Practicing Yoga nowadays is often available only to those who have the time and money for it. In the spirit of not hoarding the positive outcomes of the practice itself, we will explore finding ways to share it to support others who lack the resources to practice. Join us for this special fundraiser, where Lillian Cuthbert will lead a one hour yoga class with a theme on Aparigraha. Attendees will receive a small gift.</image:title>

In her yoga classes, she integrates a love of fluid movement with a mindful, creative, and introspective practice that creates space for students to learn, explore, and transform. She’s earned advanced yoga certification with Kofi Busia and an MFA in Poetry Writing at Columbia University. Her poetry appears in journals such as Boston Review, Hong Kong Review, Poetry Ireland. <image:title>OUR TEACHERS - Kara Gordon</image:title>
<image:caption>Kara came to yoga over a decade ago to deal with injuries from years of overtraining as a competitive swimmer. She quickly fell in love with the healing and restorative magic of yoga. She received her 200-hour teacher training at Yoga Vida and advanced her studies through their 300 hour program, including SoleMarch. Since then, she continues to pursue her yoga education with Nikki Costello and Amy Wolfe, with whom she searches for more integration between the mind, body, and spirit, as well as interrogates modern yoga pedagogy and power structures in the current system. She believes that yoga as a practice that honors its South Asian heritage is inherently trauma-informed and meets each individual where they are. This philosophy is the foundation of her classes, which are intuitively sequenced and inspired by the Iyengar lineage. She aims to foster joy, wonder, and curiosity every time she comes to her mat.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Originally from San Diego, CA, Paulina moved to NYC in 2007 and immersed herself in the fashion industry for over a decade. However, it was her journey through yoga that truly reshaped her life. Seeking strength and recovery from multiple injuries, Paulina found solace and transformation on the mat. Her deep-rooted passion and respect for Yoga and the profound sense of purpose it ignited within her led Paulina to pursue her 200-hour yoga teacher training. Paulina is committed to curating classes that provide a safe and grounding environment for practitioners of all backgrounds. She crafts sequences that seamlessly blend accessibility with challenges, ensuring that every student, regardless of experience level, finds fulfillment and growth within their practice.</image:caption>
